Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo of Rwanda

On September 1, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo of Rwanda, who accompanied President Paul Kagame of Rwanda to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping paid the first state visit to Rwanda not long ago and charted the course and drew a blueprint with President Paul Kagame for the development of China-Rwanda relations. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Rwandan side to well implement the consensuses reached by the two heads of state, and strengthen the cooperation in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, infrastructure construction, mining development and other fields, in a bid to promote bilateral cooperation to constantly score new achievements and benefit the two peoples.

Wang Yi stated that the Chinese side has always viewed the relations between China and the African Union (AU) from a strategic height and long-term perspective. China appreciates Rwanda's important role of holding the AU rotating presidency in promoting the unity and cooperation in Africa. The forth-coming FOCAC Beijing Summit will issue two important documents, Beijing Declaration and Action Plan, which will elevate the China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new highs. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen coordination with the Rwandan side to jointly push forward the Summit for a complete success.

Louise Mushikiwabo said that President Xi Jinping's visit to Rwanda in July this year is of historic significance. The Rwanda-China relations thus opened a new chapter. The Rwandan side stands ready to work with the Chinese side to proactively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation in various fields and advance major projects in such aspects as mining and infrastructure construction to constantly improve the Rwanda-China friendly cooperative relations. Against the complicated and changing international situation, the FOCAC Beijing Summit in particular attracts the attention of the public. Holding the AU rotating presidency, the Rwandan side will actively cooperate with and support the Chinese side in holding the FOCAC Beijing Summit to promote important and positive achievements from the Summit and elevate the Africa-China cooperation to a new level.
