On November 29, Guo Wei, Head of the Office of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Palestine Gived live interview to the Palestinian National Television on “The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People”.
Guo Wei paid tribute to Dr. Saeb Erekat, the late Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and longtime chief Palestinian negotiator, as an old friend of the Chinese people, and appreciated Erekat’s lifelong commitment to the cause of Palestinian national liberation. Guo Wei also showed that China is willing to work with Palestine to carry forward the traditional friendship forged by the older generations of the both countries’s leaders, and make active contributions to a comprehensive, fair and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue.
Guo Wei said that in July this year, Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, emphasized during a phone call with President Mahmoud Abbas that the Palestinian issue remains at the heart of the Middle East situation, and China’s position on the Palestinian issue is consistent and clear. China firmly supports Palestine’s just demands, as well as all efforts conducive to peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue, and supports the establishment of an independent state of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty on the basis of the 1967 borders and with east Jerusalem as its capital. President Mahmoud Abbas’s call for an International Conference on Peace in the Middle East early next year has been universally welcomed and supported by China.
Guo Wei said that China and Palestine are good brothers, friends and partners that have always firmly trusted and supported each other. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Palestine, China has actively helped the Palestinian people to overcome the hardships, and provided Palestine with anti-pandemic materials through bilateral and multilateral channels. China is willing to continue to provide assistance within its capacity.
Guo Wei said that guided by President Xi Jinping’s series of propositions and initiatives focusing on developing countries at the 15th G20 Leader’s Summit, China will further deepen the traditional friendly relations with Palestine, continue to implement the projects that are conducive to the improvement of Palestine’s economy and people’s livelihood, and bring more benefits to both countries and their people.
