On November 29, the United Nations held a meeting to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This is the tenth consecutive year in which President Xi has extended congratulations to the annual special meeting. It fully shows China’s firm support for the Palestinian people’s just cause, high attention to the peace and stability in the Middle East and its resolution to support international equity and justice.

The Palestinian issue is at the heart of the Middle East issue. Settlement of the Palestinian question in a comprehensive and just manner bears on regional peace and stability as well as international equity and justice. The peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel and common development of Arab and Jew serves the long-term interests of the two sides and it is the common aspiration of people in the world. The international community should adhere to the two-state solution, prioritize the Palestinian question on the international agenda, and help the Palestinian people realize their dream of an independent state at an early date.

China consistently supports the Palestinian people’s just cause regain their lawful national rights, actively advances peace talks to promote Palestinian Israeli peace. China supports the strengthening of the authority of the Palestinian National Authority, supports the enhancement of unity among Palestinian factions, and hopes that Palestinian-Israeli peace talks will resume at an early date to bring the Middle East peace process back on track. China will continue to provide humanitarian and development aid to Palestine, support its capacity building, and help Palestine develop economy and improve its people’s livelihood.

In 2017, President Xi Jinping put forward four propositions on the Palestinian question and talked about China’s position. In April 2022, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Security Initiative, which answered the question posed by the times, that is how can countries achieve common security? It has contributed China’s wisdom and solutions to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and resolve the Palestine question. China and Palestine worked together to strengthen cooperation in combating the virus, promoting the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation, and strengthen cooperation under the Global Development Initiative framework. The Ring Road Project and the School Project in Ramallah were completed. China and Egypt jointly provided half a million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East for the purpose of receiving Palestine refugees in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, and donated cash, anti-epidemic supplies to Palestine and the Agency.

In October this year, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was successfully held. The meeting made it clear that China remains committed to its foreign policy goals of upholding world peace and promoting common development, and it is dedicated to promoting a human community with a shared future. China firmly upholds the basic norms governing international relations, firmly defends international equity and justice, upholds the common interests of developing countries, supports and helps developing countries accelerate their development, resolutely opposes all forms of hegemony and power politics, opposes interference in others’ internal affairs, and opposes applying double standards. As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a responsible major country, China will continue to work with the international community to make positive contributions to lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity in the Middle East and the settlement of the Palestinian question in a comprehensive, just and durable manner.
