On December 14, 2020, Premier Li Keqiang delivered a speech via video link at an event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the OECD Convention.
Li Keqiang said the OECD has been long committed to policy research and coordination in global development, playing a significant role in international economic cooperation. This year marks the 25th anniversary of China's policy dialogue and cooperation relations with the OECD. Over the 25 years, the two sides have carried out two-way mutually beneficial exchanges and cooperation of diverse forms along with the development of China.
Li Keqiang pointed out, at present, the world is at a critical juncture both for fighting COVID-19 and advancing economic recovery, while economic globalization faces new opportunities and challenges amid accelerated changes in the global governance system. Countries should be encouraged to take necessary public health and economic measures in light of their own realities, and international collaboration should be deepened to jointly get through the pandemic, stabilize economy and safeguard people's livelihoods. Li Keqiang called for efforts to enhance coordination in macro-economic policies, maintain the stability of global industrial and supply chains, and relieve the difficulties facing developing countries, to push the world economy onto a path of steady recovery as soon as possible.
Li Keqiang stressed that faced with the challenges of COVID-19, China has coordinated epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development by taking a slew of measures to effectively control the epidemic and stabilize employment and the economy. China is confident that its economy will achieve positive growth this year. China respects the economic law and will work together with the market to make its macro policies continuous, effective, and sustainable through macro adjustment and maintain its economy in a reasonable range in a stable and sustainable manner to give markets stable expectations.
Li Keqiang pointed out that China is still the biggest developing country in the world. Development is the foundation and key to solving all problems in China. China will open up at a higher level, establish the new development paradigm, and promote high-quality development. China is willing to deepen cooperation with all countries in the world, including the developed countries, and promote liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment to share development opportunities with the world and achieve more mutual benefits. He hopes that the OECD will continue to make full use of its advantages while upholding its principle of "better policy, better life" and promote robust, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive development of the world economy.
