On September 3, 2026, H.E. Mr. Sun Zhen, Head of Office of the People's Republic of China to the State of Palestine, met with H.E. Dr. Ahmad Abu Houli, Member of the Fatah Central Committee, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and Head of the PLO's Refugee Affairs Department. Counsellor Li Xin and diplomat Yue Jianghua also attended the meeting.

Sun said that during President Xi Jinping's talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi the previous day, President Xi put forward a four-point proposal on new security architecture for Middle East, in which he particularly stressed that the Palestinian question remains at the core of the Middle East question and should never be ignored or marginalized. The refugee issue is an important aspect of the Palestinian question. China will continue to support the PLO Department of Refugee Affairs and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in fulfilling their mandates, and will do its best to provide support and assistance to Palestinian refugees.

Abu Houli welcomed Sun on assuming his new post and spoke highly of President Xi Jinping's four-point proposal on new security architecture in the Middle East. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to China for its longstanding, support and selfless assistance to the Palestinian people, including Palestine refugees, and expressed the hope that China would play a greater role in resolving the Palestinian question and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
